Indian Summer, or Indy for short, lives on the ranch. Indy is a black and white registered Paint mare with a soft and gentle eye even after enduring some difficult times in her life.

Originally from a ranch in Montana she found her way to California more than 3 years ago. After undergoing a severe beating Indy was purchased by our Farrier, Mary Renner, and she and Cindy McClenny, who later came to own her, spent the last 3 years teaching her that not all humans are dangerous.

Indy has shown herself to be very sweet and has taken a maternal interest in Hannah. We are hopeful that Indy will enjoy being loved on by the children that will come to the ranch.

Indy is our first horse to be blessed with a sponsor! Indian Summer is sponsored in memory of Dr. Kolleen Alison Baker Garcia.

Kolleen was a talented Chiropractor whose faith and sweet spirit led many to know Jesus Christ in a personal relationship. She had an inspiring soprano voice and loved to sing. Kolleen was a prayer warrior, who despite her illness with Multiple Sclerosis, prayed for those she knew and loved.

Kolleen has a daughter, Alexandra, with whom she leaves her legacy of faith and love.

Karolyn Kinsey is the mother of Dr. Kolleen Baker Garcia. Karolyn was instrumental in connecting key people for the vision of Morning Star Youth Ranch. She is currently working towards the start of another ministry in Texas called Mercy Came Running Ranch.
