| Frequently Asked Questions |
Can I donate my tack and or horse equipment?
We are in need of children’s saddles and safety helmets at this time. However any donated tack will certainly be evaluated for our needs at the time; what we can’t use we will place in our Used Tack Store at the San Miguel Flouring Mill to raise funds for the ranch. Please speak directly to our director if you would like to donate tack or supplies. |
Can I donate my horse to the ranch?
The horses that live on the ranch and participate in our program must demonstrate a desire and willingness to engage well with children and enjoy the time and attention required of them. Therefore they must be physically mentally and emotionally capable to do so. For these reasons, we are seldom able to accept horses with limitations due to soundness, age, or behaviors.
Even our rescued horses, once rehabilitated, must find purpose in an environment that meets their personality. If you are looking for a new home for your horse you may mail us a short paragraph (include a picture if you wish) describing your horse and giving information (height, weight, age, coloring, health, temperament, training, experience, reason for selling etc.) and we will let our connections know. Please continue seeking a suitable new home for your horse on your own as well. |
Are donations Tax-deductible?
Being that MSYR is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization we can supply tax receipts for all donations that include but are not limited to : monetary donations, feed, ranch equipment, building supplies, horses, horse tack, or land etc.

Can we visit the ranch?
As we are not up and operating at this time visiting the ranch is by appointment only. Please e-mail or call the ranch office at 805-226-2859 to speak with our director about a tour or to place your child on a waiting list. |
Is Morning Star Youth Ranch a religious organization?
MSYR is not affiliated with any particular religious denomination or church. We are a faith-based organization where our faith is “lived” not “preached”. The founder, board of directors, and staff all believe in God and the saving grace of His Son Jesus Christ. It is our highest honor to serve children and families of all backgrounds regardless of religious beliefs. |
Can you recommend a book describing the type of program you will offer?
Yes! We require all our volunteers, staff, and mentors, to read a wonderful book describing a program that has inspired us to follow a similar vision. You can purchase the book online directly through our website, with a percentage of the sale benefitting Morning Star Youth Ranch. Please see details below:
